Q. How long is the class?
A. 6 hours of classroom (online) instruction and another 2 hours on the range doing live fire exercises. Our Partner is ElectronicCCW.com. We do not accept any other online training at this time. There are other online trainers popping up but DO NOT BE FOOLED! ElectronicCCW.com is the ONLY online training class currently accepted in every county of Ohio.
Q. Why do I have to take the class?
A. Because it is required by the state of Ohio to get a Concealed handgun license.
Q. Why should I take this class over the others in the area?
A. Because Valley View Firearms Training is a small school, run by a very
knowledgeable, skilled professional, certified instructor who
loves to teach and believes that everyone has the right to protect themselves
and deserve high quality training for their hard-earned money. Now with our online classes, it's easier than ever.
Q. How much does it cost?
A. $90 with discounts from our partner when you take the online class.
Q. If I take the online class, do I still have to shoot?
Q. Will I learn how to fight?
Q. How long is the training certificate good?
A. It does not expire but you must apply for your Concealed Carry license within 1 year after taking the training. After that, your Ohio CHL is good for 5 years and is renewable without further training.
Q. What is the class all about?
A. The traditional class is composed of the NRA approved Basic Pistol Class plus lots of additional information. There is discussion about the legal issues and responsibilities of carrying a gun. The bulk of the class is fundamental in nature and safety is a common thread throughout the day. The online version is NOT an NRA approved class but does comply with the Ohio CHL requirements.
Q. What should I bring with me to class?
A. An open mind, a good attitude, and clothing appropriate for both inside and
outside activities. Also a handgun in good working order and 100 rounds of the correct factory ammo for that pistol. Reloaded ammunition is prohibited on VVFT's range. Bring brass cased ammo ONLY, no steel cased or aluminum ammo please. Eye and ear protection are mandatory for range work and we can loan it to you if you don't have it. Also bring a picture ID and a copy or picture of your Certificate of completion from Electronic CCW.
Q. Does Valley View Firearms Training have guns for rent?
A. Yes, a few. Contact us for more details.
Q. What caliber gun do I need?
A. We prefer you bring a defensive caliber handgun such as a 9mm, 40 S&W, or
45ACP but you may bring any metallic cartridge-firing handgun to class including
a .22lr. The only gun you are not permitted to use is a single action revolver in any caliber. (think cowboy guns).
Q. What does “good working order” mean?
A. It means; a modern firearm in good condition, properly assembled and lubricated, capable of firing 100 rounds without repeated malfunctions. A poorly made or maintained handgun is unsafe for the user as well as the rest of the class. When your gun won’t work, the rest of the class will be waiting on you. Valley View Firearms does not repair customer’s guns. You do not have to own a gun to take this class.
Q. 100 rounds is a lot! Will I really need that many?
Q. Does VVFT sell ammunition?
Q. Do I bring my gun in to class with me or leave it in the car?
A. Bring it in with you. It must be unloaded and preferably in a case. Do not bring any ammunition into the classroom. Once you are in the classroom, do not touch the gun, the instructor will tell you what to do next. Do not transport loaded magazines in your car. In Ohio, that is the same as a loaded gun which you do not yet have a license to carry.
Q. Is the class dangerous?
A. No. Valley View Firearms Training creates and maintains a very safe learning environment.
Q. I don’t have a gun. What should I do?
A. Borrow a handgun in good working order from someone or call us. We have rentals available.
Q. I have been shooting all my life and I already know all about guns. I don’t really need this class. Can I just get a certificate if I pay the $100?
A. No.That would be a breach of state law as well as our ethics. If you want to cut corners or break the law, do not come to Valley View Firearms Training. Shooters of every skill level will learn something in this class. Often, shooters with many years of experience comment to us after the class that they learned a lot and had
a great time.
Q. I don’t think I can sit still for 8 hours.
A. Neither can we! Don’t worry; the class is fast paced, fun and engaging. There are frequent breaks and before you know it, the class is over. The online class makes it easier than ever to get your license because you don't have to take the class all at once. You may log in and out as many times as you like until your 6 hours is done. Most people do it over the course of two or three evenings.
Q. I’m afraid of guns and I don’t like them. My husband wants me to take this class but I really don’t want to. What should I do?
A. Relax. Many people who were initially afraid of guns leave our class having lost that fear completely and can’t wait to shoot more. We have trained more women than men and will make you comfortable.
Q. Is the class hard?
A. No but you will have to pay attention. There is a great deal of material to cover in 8 hours.
Q. Is this like a military school or boot camp?
A. No.This class is fun and informative and conducted in a very controlled but relaxed way. We strive to make everyone feel welcome and at ease. You are free and encouraged to ask questions at any time throughout the course.
Q. Is the class handicap accessible?
A. Sort of. We will do everything we can to get you trained. Call us to discuss your particular needs.
Q. Can I fail the class?
A. Yes, in several ways. If you fail the test which is highly unlikely, or if you willfully disrespect the rights of the other students, staff or facilities. Disobeying the instructor or Range Safety Officer while on the range is grounds for immediate dismissal.
Q. What if I just can’t hit the targets?
A. Valley View Firearms Training wants you to get your license. We do not however, want you carrying a gun if you cannot safely handle and fire it with reasonable accuracy and neither does the state of Ohio. We will work with you as best we can to help you meet the standards set forth by the state. It would be a rare occurrence for a person to be unable to hit a human sized target at confrontational ranges after training with us.
Q. When is the next class?
A. Give us a call or email us.
Q. Several members of my family want to take the class. Can you do a private class
and is there a discount?
A. Yes, we do private classes. We can even do the class at your location if it meets our needs. We feel that our price is very competitive and represents an excellent
value to our students so no discounts are available.
Q. My question is not answered here what do I do?
A. Call or email us.
